ECONOMY + COMMUNION
“These are two words that contemporary culture keeps separate and often considers opposites (…) With your life you demonstrate that Economy and Communion become more beautiful when they are beside each other…”
Pope Francis
The Pope’s invitation
Economy of Communion has been working since 2018 to promote the initiative of Pope Francis aimed at young economists, entrepreneurs and change-makers, so that the economy of today and tomorrow may be more just, fraternal, sustainable and with a new leading role played by those who are excluded today. Young people from all over the world will meet in Assisi in the spring of 2020.

EoC-IIN AND NEW ENTERPRISE DEVELOPMENT
We have consolidated the Economy of Communion international network of business incubators (EoC-IIN) and created new jobs through the local development of new enterprises.
International incubator network for EoC businesses
The international network for the incubation of new companies called EoC-IIN, Economy of Communion International Incubating Network was founded in March 2016. Here, entrepreneurs and professionals of the Economy of Communion share their professionalism and experience to encourage the emergence of new business initiatives with positive social and environmental impact in compliance with ethical principles and responsibility. In addition to the individual activities of the various Hubs, in 2018 there also was: Booster Week (acceleration week) for European startups in France, the 3-day EoC workshop on the occasion of the post-Genfest in the Philippines, webinar experiences (in the health care and tourism sectors) for the creation of a network between startups and entrepreneurs of the same field and training for mentors in Mexico. Moreover, all the EoC-IIN coordinators met at the Lionello Hub (Loppiano, Italy) to share, learn and rethink the future of EoCIIN.
The EoCIIN Hubs are access points already active in 16 countries.

PTSNOA Project
Project
Sustainable and Responsible Tourism Programme in North-West Argentina
The PTSNOA programme aims to grow and develop rural communities in the North-West region of Argentina by looking at tourism as an opportunity for human and social growth, respecting the origins, traditions and territory of local communities. Thanks to the program, the first experiences of tourist reception are now beginning to consolidate and make themselves known on the market, generating work for the local population and new relationships between cultures.
“We often confuse development with economic growth. In this programme we have the proof, the demonstration of how it is possible to work for development while protecting the culture of the native peoples, protecting their relationship with the environment, working for gender equality and favouring active engagement, emphasizing the role of women and young people, strengthening professional skills, freeing the potential of ability that every person has inside”.
Francesco Tortorella (AMU – Action for a United World)
PROFOR Project
Strengthening Inclusive Enterprises and Communion in Brazil
The PROFOR programme for strengthening inclusive companies and communities aims to improve the life quality of people in a situation of social vulnerability by means of a genuine incubation programme for social enterprises which generate opportunities for decent work and/or offer basic products and services accessible to the most disadvantaged people in various regions of Brazil, especially in rural areas and urban outskirts. After the phases of training, technical support and supply of seed capital, the companies participating in the first incubation cycle are consolidating. During the year, 5 new companies benefited from the training and technical support of the program, to strengthen and generate new job opportunities internally.
RAISE II Project
An Alternative Response to Social Integration and Entrepreneurship in Portugal
As the name suggests, the overall objective of the project is to raise people, as in ‘relieving’ them. The objective of the project is to contribute to the social and labor integration of the population in the municipality of Alenquer, 46 km north of Lisbon, reducing the incidence of unemployment and the consequent emigration. At the same time, RAISE intends to contribute to the most effective social integration of refugees in the territory of Alenquer.
The strategy of the project consists in offering personalized psycho-social training and support to the participants. This is done by building and realizing together with each of them an individual plan of insertion in the labor market with third parties or, when the personal conditions and the social context allow it, also through the creation of entrepreneurial initiatives that are “incubated” in the local Communion Economics Pole.
WORKING THE SYSTEM – BEYOND WELCOMING
Integration in Italy
Fare Sistema Oltre l’Accoglienza (Working the System – Beyond Welcoming) was founded in Italy with the aim of promoting the social and work integration of Italian citizens and migrants – with particular attention to unaccompanied foreign minors – in vulnerable conditions, in particular those in their phase of leaving communities and reception centers. Working the System – Beyond Welcoming is run by a national network of families, companies, civil society organizations and even institutions, which engage themselves personally in the paths of social and work inclusion of the participants, with the idea that development is a experience of profound reciprocity that can enrich everyone.

The ALBA House
Professional Training Center
Casa Alba Batik and Sewing School is a center of vocational training and work-active start-up in Nigeria, which is aimed at unemployed girls from vulnerable families. The center offers training for the acquisition of knowledge and skills in the textile sector, initiating the participants in the profession of professional seamstresses. The students also carry out a professional training experience, supported by expert seamstresses, in the center’s production laboratory, which produces and sells clothing and home accessories. All the profits generated by the laboratory are reinvested in the professional training of girls.

TRAINING
The Economy of Communion is a contingent expression of a wider system of values. In this sense the complete formation of the human person plays a fundamental role. This year, too we have financed scholarships, promoted EoC Schools and congresses and supported the activities of the Sophia University Institute.

PROPHETIC ECONOMY
www.propheticeconomy.org
An international and inter-generational event that, starting as a meeting place, a place for exchange and mutual inspiration between different realities, has crossed the threshold of pure networking, and become a spur for common efforts, from daily initiatives to local activities and international actions.
“The new idea behind this event was to bring together ecology and economy. Today we can no longer speak of poverty without also talking about the climate. The cry of the earth and the cry of the poor are the same cry. Prophecy gives those who are invisible a voice.” Luigino Bruni.

Into the LABel
Laboratory of conscious consumption and economic democracy
The “Into the LABel” format was born in 2018: a collective action in which citizens become protagonists of an experiment in economic democracy to learn about the “ethical calories” and “sugars of justice” that the products we buy every day. It is now clear, in fact, that we are all called upon to evaluate, in consumption choices, not only the price or perceived quality of the product but also its social value, determined by the characteristics of the supply chain and the production process. The laboratory is conceived as an “election day” in which some products are presented as candidates to be voted through the purchase, on the basis of their different “programs” or the information collected by the young organizers of the event and shared (in a rather original way!) on the occasion of the initiative.
SOPHIA UNIVERSITY
Training professionals of dialogue and peace
Sophia offers a human, cultural and professional preparation for those who have the world as their horizon and Wisdom as their compass for orientation. Wide vision, team work training, conflict resolution tools, problem solving strategies, ways of dialogue – in an international and intercultural environment rich in stimuli and opportunities.
The economy is undergoing a paradigm shift. We need new ideas and new practices. Ideas and practices that must also revive the teaching of economics – which itself is in a crisis because of gradually turning away from the life and problems of people. To read the phenomena in which reality manifests itself correctly and to act in an appropriate manner it is necessary to acquire adequate knowledge.

SUPERA
A program to overcome economic vulnerability
Program coordinator Célia de Souza Carneiro says, “We must not only look at the economic contribution, which is also important, but help the person living in circumstances of vulnerability to gradually find their dignity, by observing, for example, their family situation and where they live”.
For the second time this year, the Overcoming Economic Vulnerability Programme (SUPERA, Superamento della Vulnerabilità Economica) brought together 21 people (14 agents and seven guests) involved in poverty reduction activities in Vargem Grande Paulista, near the city of São Paulo. The program is funded by the communion of resources in the Economy of Communion (EoC) and the United World Association (Associazione per un Mondo Unito, AMU).
The Meeting of the National Network of SUPERA Agents was organized by the National Association for an Economy of Communion (ANPECOM) with the aim of integrating and training agents through the evaluation and experiences of the work done by the agents, each coming from different states of the country.
